CHAPTER 5

When Tania woke up a few hours later she saw that she was in a hospital. She tried to move but she couldn’t. “Take it easy baby girl” she heard. Tania turned and looked off to her side and saw Nico standing there by the side of the bed. She looked at him like he was crazy.

“What did you do?” she asked. He squinted his eyes at her. “What do you mean what did I do? I did what you asked me to. You called me and said something was wrong with the babies” he said standing off to the side looking down at her. “Something wrong with the babies? Where are they?” she said as she looked down at her stomach and noticed that it wasn’t as big as it was before. Nico grabbed two pictures that were sitting on the table next to her hospital bed. “Here they are” he said as he handed her two photos. “This one right here is our beautiful daughter and this little fella over here is our son” he said smiling.

When Tania had called him, he rushed right over and found her passed out on the floor. Springing into action he picked her up and drove to the hospital right on time. Tania was about ten minutes away from losing both the babies and possibly dying herself. He had to sit out in the waiting room while she had an emergency C-section. When the babies were born, he only got to see them for a minute before they were wheeled into the NICU.

He looked down at Tania and noticed that she was crying as she stared at the photos of the two babies. Nico reached down and wiped her tears away. “How are they doing?” she asked. “They are doing okay. My little princess right here is smaller, she’s having problems breathing. But they said it was normal. This big boy right here is bigger. They have him under some kind of lights or something” Nico said sitting down.

“Under lights? Why? What’s wrong with him?” Tania asked. “They said something about some kind of levels are too high. But he’s doing good” Nico said looking at her. They were quiet for awhile as they stared at each other. “I want to go see them” she said.

“Are you up to it?” he asked. “Yes. I want to go see my babies” Tania said. “Let me go and get the nurse” he said. A few minutes later Nico came back in with the nurse who was pushing a wheelchair. “You want to go visit your babies?” she said. Tania nodded. “Alright, let’s get you up and going to see those beautiful babies” the nurse said. Nico helped Tania get out of the bed and put her in the wheelchair. The nurse put a blanket over Tania’s lap and wheeled her into the NICU. Nico followed right behind them. The nurse wheeled her over to the corner the babies were at. Tania gasped when she saw how tiny her daughter was.
